FairPlay Episode 1 | Kimberly Kendall Corral and The Case of Michael Thompson

Justice Has No Color

April 18, 2021 | Imran Siddiqui | JusticeNews.Net

The objective of FairPlay on JusticeNews.Net is simple, to discuss and highlight issues related to Justice in the United States. Judicial systems are candidly discussed, based on facts, data and ground realities, and without any fear, contempt or intimidation to speak the truth.

FairPlay covers a wide variety of topics ranging from social reform, to race, discrimination, crime, punishment, rehabilitation and justice. Our guests are from all walks of life mostly representing the voice of the middle. They participate in the show with their voice and share their experiences pertaining to life-altering decisions made by the justice system in America.

To discuss these challenges Kimberly Kendall Corral is joining me on our debut episode of FairPlay.

She is a criminal defense attorney at kimlawcrimlaw.com based out of Cleveland Ohio where she handles multiple criminal defense cases that can make your head spin. Like the case of Michael Thompson.

Michael’s story is unique, in so many different ways, and yet like so many others who are still out there suffering an unjust punishment at the hands of a justice system that repeatedly fails to correct itself.

Michael Thompson was sentenced to life in 1996, for at least 42 to 60 years, just for selling a few pounds of marijuana to an informant. They gave him the maximum due to Michigan's habitual offender law which gives judges the power to enhance sentences of those who have any prior felonies.

Michael spent 25 years in prison.

Mr. Thompson was released in January of 2021 after clemency was granted in his marijuana case by the Governor of Michigan . But it wasn't as easy as it sounds.

Kim represented Michael and witnessed his long ordeal that led to a bitter-sweet victory, which is always the case. She talked about their struggles, the justice system, their nightmares and their achievements in getting justice against an injustice that scarred many lives forever.
